Almost every home in the Las Vegas valley is built on a concrete slab. It feels bone dry in the desert, but concrete can still release moisture from below, and it's rarely perfectly flat. Both of those details decide how well your new floor performs, which is why we check the slab before we quote.
Why moisture still matters in a dry climate
Moisture can move up through concrete from the ground, from irrigation near the foundation, or from a slab that's still curing in a newer build. Engineered hardwood and laminate can react to that moisture over time, so they usually go down over a vapor barrier. Luxury vinyl plank and tile are far less sensitive.
Flatness is the bigger issue we see
Click-together floors need a flat surface. If a slab dips or humps, planks can flex, click, or separate at the joints. During prep we grind down high spots and fill low ones with leveling compound. It's not the glamorous part of the job, but it's the part that keeps a floor quiet and tight for years.

What happens to your old floor
Removing old tile or glued carpet pad often leaves thinset or adhesive behind. We handle removal and floor prep so the new floor starts on a clean, flat surface.
